GO-EDC Foundation, Inc. has been established to attend to the charitable functions of revitalizing depressed areas, addressing blight, and empowering economically disadvantaged populations in specified areas within our greater Oshkosh community. This Foundation is organized as a Wisconsin not for profit corporation and is tax exempt under the Internal Revenue Code, 501(c)(3).

Scope of Work

Economic Stability: One of the Greater Oshkosh EDC Foundation’s primary responsibilities is to create economic opportunities for our most financially distressed residents. Our goals include generating higher-income opportunities, making education and training accessible, and increasing property values within the Greater Oshkosh area.

Community Enhancement: We aim to restore distressed areas by improving, redeveloping, and repurposing underutilized or vacant commercial and industrial properties. In collaboration with community leaders, the foundation develops and implements strategies for property improvement, prioritizes infrastructure projects, and encourages businesses to establish themselves in these areas. properties is one of our key objectives. Financial Assistance

Existing Businesses

Supporting businesses that specifically hire unemployed, minorities, and economically disadvantaged persons.

New and Emerging Businesses

Providing economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs that are unable to access private-lender financing with the means to start their business.

Capital Catalyst Recipient

Fifth Ward Brewing Company, 1009 South Main Street in downtown Oshkosh, received financial assistance to establish their brewery and taproom, while creating jobs in an area considered economically distressed.

Redevelopment

Greater Oshkosh EDC Foundation supports place-based development initiatives focused on downtown and inner core development, distressed neighborhood development, and other redevelopment efforts to remove or restore eyesores and thus increase property values, restore resident pride, and encourage businesses to locate in these areas.

  • Maintains an inventory list of available commercial and industrial properties and real estate contacts.
  • Assists businesses navigating local, state, and federal incentives: Tax Incremental Financing, Opportunity Zones, HUBZones, New Markets Tax Credits.
  • Determines the value proposition of underutilized or vacant properties and identify the best strategy for improvement.
  • Ensures infrastructure is available and such investments are prioritized within the City’s comprehensive plans.
  • Attracts businesses in target industries to Oshkosh, identified for their job-creating opportunities: advanced manufacturing, aerospace/aviation, technology, and second stage companies.

Removing Blight

Collaborated with the City of Oshkosh and a developer to assist in removing the former Buckstaff Furniture
Company to make way for redevelopment. The Buckstaff property was among the most blighted properties
not only in Oshkosh, but in northeast Wisconsin – stunting neighborhood property values, the creation of
new economic opportunities, and the overall quality of life.

Workforce Development

  • Identifies skills training opportunities that exist within the greater Oshkosh area: Fox Valley Technical College, Oshkosh area schools, and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
  • Supports diverse, disabled, youth, and veteran initiatives providing viable quality employment opportunities.
  • Supports efforts to assist economically distressed individuals to acquire and retain employment by providing access to reliable and affordable transportation to and from work.

Childcare

This partnership with local social service providers, is working to tackle the issues of childcare availability and affordability. Barriers related to childcare can lead not only to unemployment but also to underemployment.

Community

Greater Oshkosh EDC Foundation partners with Oshkosh Healthy Neighborhoods to educate residents in distressed areas about the resources available.
